Programm

Moot Canada 2013 – much more than tourism!

 The following is an overview of what you can expect at Moot 2013.
As architects of their own program, participants will be invited to choose and design an expedition challenge prior to the Moot, based on one of the following themes:

  • the Life path,
  • the Ecoresponsible path,
  • the Culture path,
  • and the Adventure path.

You will think through your personal objectives for your participation. You will design challenges that will have you charting the path you have to take to live the Canadian experience. The World Scout Environment Badgeis one example of a target for full recognition at Moot 2013.
The Scout Expedition challenges will be carried out in small international teams of eight Scouts, and will take place in Toronto, Montréal or Quebec City, also according to the preferences of each participant based on the first-come, first-served principle.
From August 8 to 18, 2013, Moot Canada 2013 will highlight the modern and traditional aspect of Canada, and will feature Scouts from around the world. Once back in their own countries, we hope that the participants will become true agents of change, spreading what they have learned throughout their communities.

The 2-3-1-3-2 formula

2 days to welcome participants to the base camp: opening ceremonies, team meetings, workshops and technical training, and conferences where they can prepare for their expedition challenge;

3 days when half of the participants will head for their pre-selected destination – Toronto, Montréal or Quebec City – for their expedition challenge, while the other half of the group remains at base camp to take part in a series of outdoor activities and adventures;

1 day of travel, as all participants head for Ottawa for a cultural activity on Parliament hill;

3 days when the other half of the participants take their turn heading for Toronto, Montréal or Quebec City for their expedition challenge, and the first half of the group remains at base camp to take part in a series of outdoor and adventure activities;

2 days when everyone gathers at the Awacamenj Mino base to share their discoveries and for the closing ceremony.

The Awacamenj Mino base camp

Ever since it was established in 1955, the Awacamenj Mino camp – which means “better than best” in Algonquin – has offered a true paradise of wildlife and vegetation to young and adult Scouts and non-Scouts. This is the largest outdoor centre in the area.
The camp, which is open year-round, is located 75 km north of Ottawa-Gatineau, right in the wilderness. This 750-acre domain, which borders Lac de L’Île (lac Isabel) over nearly 2 km, has everything the groups need for an unforgettable outdoor experience.
